Connecting to your personal file store (M Drive) via secure FTP

Access your M Drive via secure FTP without using Off Campus Applications

Why Use FTP?

If you want to access your personal file store (M drive) from off campus, but are unable to use the Off campus applications service then you are able to use secure FTP to copy files to and from your M Drive.

Recent improvements to the security of the service have meant that, it is no longer possible to use the built in FTP capabilities of Microsoft Windows, as it does not support the secure FTP protocol. There are, however, a number of free secure FTP applications available which can be used. These include:

Windows XP and later  Mac OS X  Linux  Portable Application

Filezilla

WinSCP

gFTP

FireFTP

What is a portable application?

A portable application is an application that can be run without it having to be installed on the computer. Portable applications are usually run directly from a memory stick. This is a useful option if, for example you are using a Windows based PC which restricts the use of the off campus applications service, and where it is not possible to install additional software.
