Microsoft Windows 7 at LJMU
All Managed PC's across our network now all run Microsoft Windows 7 and from June 2014 all new PCs will come with Office 2013, Google Chrome and a number of smaller changes to enhance the user experience.
All student PCs by Septemer 2014, including those in the Learning Resource Centres at Aldham Robarts, Avril Robarts and I.M.Marsh and the I.T Centres in Byrom St and the John Foster Building will be running a 64bit version of Windows 7 and Office 2013 (32 bit) as well as all the latest versions of our most popular software including AutoCAD 2015, SPSS 22, Solidworks 2014 and lots more.
All current managed staff PC's are still running Windows 7 and Office 2010 but all new staff PC's installed after July 1st 2014 will mirror the student client and will be a 64 bit version of Windows 7 and Office 2013 and are fully managed and supported by IT Services (We do offer an advanced staff client for developers called a 'flexible' client which can be requested with a valid business case).
Office 2013 will be the version of Office included on all new Windows 7 staff clients and all student/public clients at LJMU. Office 2013 uses the same file formats as Office 2007 and 2010, so there should be relatively few compatibility issues. Office 2013 is already available to download for free from the staff download pages for use on home PCs or laptops from :
LJMU students have the ability to purchase discounted Microsoft software and a subscription to Office 365 which is available through the following link:Microsoft Student Store
