IM Marsh Residents Parking Scheme to go ahead

23 April 2012

Liverpool City Council has confirmed that a resident parking scheme around the IM Marsh campus will be operational from September 2012.

After this date, on-street parking will only be permitted within the designated zone if you have a valid permit. To see a map of the designated Residents Parking Scheme zone, click here

Permits are only being issued to residents living on streets within the designated zone; no permits will be available to LJMU staff or students.

Staff can continue to park at the on-site car park with a valid LJMU parking permit. For further details and an application form, go to

Donna Gutteridge, Assistant Environmental Manager said:

"Getting to IM Marsh via public transport is easier than you think and affordable too. Arriva and Stagecoach run a co-ordinated bus timetable with buses available every 6 minutes and LJMU has teamed up with Merseyrail on the new GEM pass which is available for staff and students. So leave the car at home and let public transport take the strain."

Public transport options:

  • Arriva and Stagecoach now run a co-ordinated bus timetable, with buses running every 6 minutes throughout the day.
  • Trains are available every 15 mins via Moorfields or Central Station to Aigburth station on Merseyrail's Northern Line or the city line from Lime Street every 30 mins to West Allerton station. Remember: Central Station will be closed between 23 April and 22 October 2012.

GEM pass

Merseyrail has developed a new pass for University staff and students. The GEM pass is available on a weekly or monthly basis and you can use it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week anywhere on the Merseyrail network.

The University is also subsidising an extra week’s travel for monthly passes bought by LJMU staff and students, which means you can get 5 weeks travel for the price of 4*. Please note: the promotion has limited availability and will be awarded on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and only applies to monthly ticket purchases.

To apply for a week’s free travel on top of your monthly pass please email
You will then be sent an application form and a unique reference number which you can take along with your completed Merseyrail form to any Merseyrail station.

This GEM pass also entitles holders to discounts and offers at local shops and restaurants throughout Merseyside.
