LJMU students 'running a business'
10 May 2012
A team of Liverpool Business School (LBS) students has come up with a business idea that could see them run away with a business award.
Their initiative, 'Just Jogging' has been selected through a competitive process managed by Santander to represent LJMU and Young Enterprise North West at the Young Enterprise Start Up National Final.
Just Jogging is a city centre based jogging club aimed at getting the student community up and running – literally. It combines a fitness element with the chance to socialise, meet other students and see some of the historic and exciting sights Liverpool City Centre while out on a run. The club also has a charitable element as it gives a percentage of its proceeds to the British Heart Foundation.
The Level 5 LBS students - Lydia Logan (Business & Public Relations), Gerard McGeown (Accounting & Finance), Kate Frackelton (Business & Public Relations), Duo Li (Accounting & Finance), Lei Chen (Accounting & Finance), Clare Shaw (Business & Public Relations) and Mohammed Khan (Accounting & Finance) - have all this year undertaken the Graduate Enterprise module led by Janet Farrow and supported by the LJMU Centre for Entrepreneurship and Young Enterprise.
This module enables students to work in groups and develop a business idea in a supportive environment. The Young Enterprise model provides banking facilities, access to mentors and insurance allowing students to test trade at minimal risk.
Just Jogging was selected on the strength of the team's business plan. Around 20 plans were submitted from teams across the UK and Just Jogging will be up against another 7 teams from HEIs from other regions. Feedback suggests that the judges especially liked the social enterprise element of their idea.
Sally Partington, Enterprise Education Officer at LJMU, commented
"We are delighted that Just Jogging has been selected to represent LJMU at this prestigious event. It is testament to the hard work and effort they have invested in developing their business and we are very proud of this achievement."
The final takes place at the Guildhall, London, on Friday 18 May.
