What is Scholarship? We want your thoughts

11 May 2012

LJMU is currently looking into what scholarship means and how it can be developed.

The project is being undertaken by Jackie Gresham, Director of LJMU's Academic Enhancement Unit, Kate Johnston, Dean of Faculty of Education, Community and Leisure and Professor Diana Burton, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Academic Enhancement, Research and Regional Engagement:

"We wish to stimulate debate about what scholarship means at LJMU so a few of us got together some thoughts that we would like everybody who is interested to respond to. Please feel very free to comment on, question, add to and develop the discussion in the blackboard online forum."

But what do we mean by scholarship and how will we know when we are doing it - and doing it well? Does it only relate to the personal and professional development of academic staff and students, or is it a concept that can also be used to support the development of staff working in the professional services of the University?

This forum highlights some of the issues which, as a team, we may need to consider in order to ensure that scholarship is at the core of LJMU's work over the next 5 years and beyond. In order to move forward, we have some key questions to explore.

To contribute to the discussion, log in to Blackboard and click on the 'what is scholarship' announcement.
