Triaster is the chosen software for mapping all of the University’s processes.  We chose Triaster because the product was consistent with our previous approaches to Process Review and we already used Microsoft Visio as a tool for mapping; Triaster is the next generation mapping software.  The initial objective was to support the implementation of the SERIG recommendations to enable process consistency across our student support activity; however it has always been the intention to extend the initiative to the mapping of all University processes.

The main strength of Triaster is the ability to visualise processes at a number of levels and because of its flexibility we have been able to link the process maps to detailed procedural information in our student systems via the Oracle User Productivity Kit (UPK).  As we move forward with Campus Solutions, this facility will be of major benefit in the implementation and training for that event.  In addition, the maps are also capable of linking directly to relevant policies, procedures, and standard forms and letters used by the processes in question

We anticipate that process standardisation will lead to a better service to our students and an increase in satisfaction and retention levels.  It will also give us the opportunity to develop ‘in-process’ leading indicators that will help us monitor and control processes better.

All Student Experience support related processes will be launched in September 2010 at which point the Triaster Library will go live.  All other University processes will be added on a prioritised basis over the next 18 months.
