Formal link established with North Mersey Health Informatics Service

Collaboration between LJMU’s Centre for Health and Social Care Informatics (CHaSCI) and North Mersey Health Informatics Service (HIS) has made progress with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations.

Since its creation over five years ago, CHaSCI has worked closely with North Mersey HIS, a NHS shared service that provides Information, Management and Technology services to eight NHS Trusts.

This unique collaboration between an NHS Informatics service and a University Informatics centre will foster developments supporting everyday business process, while also linking in blue-skies research, prototyping and evaluation skills from LJMU.

The NHS drive on the ‘Quality Innovation Productivity and Prevention’ agenda will increasingly look to capitalise on technology to drive up quality and productivity and these will be key areas of exploration for the partners.

Dr Farath Arshad, Head, CHaSCI said: “I am delighted that LJMU and North Mersey Health Informatics Service have formalised their long standing, mutually beneficial relationship. For LJMU, it provides opportunities to increase the range of applications of computing, not only in terms of real, needs-driven project work, but also allowing students to pursue final year or postgraduate projects which have relevance to the needs of the NHS market.”

Mark Bostock, Director North Mersey HIS stated: “We are excited by the potential of this partnership. The approach to health and social care is rightly becoming more collaborative, and traditional public sector organisational boundaries are being crossed in the interests of patient/service user wellbeing. In partnership with LJMU we have a real opportunity to progress in terms of research, development, quality assurance and other key areas.’
