The pre-requisites for this course can be divided into three types:

  • The school has a range of educational / experience-based pre-requisites for students intending to study post-graduate courses.
  • For distance-learning courses, there are also a set of technical requirements.
  • Finally, for the Forensic CCTV Analysis course, there are a further set of security clearance / eligbility requirements that must be met.

Educational / Experience-based requirements

Applicants should normally have one of the following qualifications:

  • A degree in Computing or related subject; including those with a significant core of Science
  • Degree-equivalent professional qualification as above
  • DipHE or HND plus a minimum or 3 years' professional experience in Computing or related subject

Additionally, students with non-standard entry qualifications may be admitted after consideration by the Programme Team and Admissions Tutor, subject to suitable professional / industrial experience.

Distance Learning Technical requirements

Owing to the online-delivery nature of large sections of this course, there are a set of technical requirements that the computer you will use for studying must meet. You can find these requirements at our online MSc section, available here (will open in a new window).

Security / Clearance requirements

Owing to the sensitive nature of a) techniques and b) material covered in this course, potential students must be prepared to provide proof of their security-related occupation (e.g. law enforcement, organisational security), or demonstrate a commitment to working in this field. Additionally, UK applicants will be subject to satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau (CRB). Overseas applicants will be subject to satisfactory security clearance from either their own local CRB, if applicable, or a law-enforcement equivalent.
