Research at Liverpool John Moores University
Research and scholarship is at the heart of Liverpool John Moores University and integral to everything we do. This is reinforced through the University's current Strategic Plan (2012-17) in which our Research Institutes and Centres are recognised as beacons of excellence that provide inspiration and motivation to staff, students and society. At LJMU research is pivotal to enhancement of the student experience, as well as engagement with our key stakeholders in industry and throughout the public sector. Our research has impact beyond academia, benefiting individuals, communities, industry & commerce and policy-makers throughout the UK and Worldwide.
The University is one of the leading research-active contemporary institutions in the UK. The 2008 RAE confirmed the presence of World-leading and internationally-excellent research right across the Institution. Our growing reputation for excellence in research was recently recognised by our first listing in theTimes Higher Education World University Rankings for 2011-12 - ranking 354th in the World and 45th in the UK (with research influence as the major driver).
The Institution's research profile and reputation have continued to develop over recent years as evidenced by our performance in RAE2008 coupled with the sustained rise in our external research income (more than trebling over the last 10 years). We have a growing number of early career research-active staff who will make a significant contribution to our growing research profile over future years.
To deliver excellent research we provide our researchers with modern facilities and infrastructure. A fourth major round of investment in our research infrastructure will build on previous initiatives in order to continue to support our major research strengths in science, engineering and in the arts and humanities. We strongly encourage multi-disciplinary research and actively support collaboration with Institutions across the World.
Details on our recognised Research Institutes and Centres can be found here.
