Sports Scholarships for outstanding sports people
Our ground-breaking Sport scholarship scheme for elite athletes has enabled some top sporting stars to take advantage of specially tailored fitness and academic programmes to enable them to study without detracting from their vigorous training regimes. Current scholars include Laura Malcolm and Hannah Whelan and our graduates include Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, high jumper, Martyn Bernard and 800m runner Michael Rimmer. LJMU’s innovative Sports Scholarship scheme will provide sports scholarship students the opportunity to flourish in their sporting and academic ambitions. LJMU Sports Scholars will have the opportunity to have a direct impact on their own personal performance through access to the UK’s leading Institution in Sports Exercise Science and Research. 

Sports Scholars at LJMU receive the same sports science expertise that LJMU already provides to world renowned senior international athletes and professional teams.

LJMU athletes past and present have achieved international recognition across a variety of sports. Current LJMU Sports scholarship students have been successful in winning medals in a number of major international competitions, including the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Womens Premiere League.

LJMU’s Sports Scholarship scheme builds on the University’s and the City’s strong sporting foundations - we contrinue to attract and develop the best sporting talent in the UK locally, nationally and internationally. LJMU has strong and extensive ties with professional sports organizations and sports agencies across the Northwest. The established network of partnerships provides LJMU scholars with access to some of the regions finest training and competition facilities.Affiliation to the region's leading professional coaches and facilities across a wide range of sports will give scholars a complete support base and assist them in their pursuit of sporting excellence. Many LJMU students already excel in their sporting endeavours, our athlete-centered sports scholarship programme can raise an athlete’s game and help them realise their true sporting potential.
