Dr Paul R. Ford
Senior Lecturer in Expert Performance and Learning
Dr. Paul R. Ford is a Senior Lecturer within the Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences, Liverpool John Moores University. He completed his undergraduate degree in Coaching Science in 2003 and his doctoral degree in Skill Acquisition in 2006 at Liverpool John Moores University, before becoming a full-time member of staff in 2007. He is a member of the Expert Performance and Learning Unit within the Brain and Behaviour research group in our Research Institute.
His research examines expert performance, its attributes and its acquisition or development. He has published extensively on these topics and regularly presents at international conferences. His research has been funded by The Football Association, English Institute of Sport, and Badminton World Federation. Paul is a member of European College of Sport Science (ECSS) and Expertise and Skill Acquisition Network (ESAN). His current projects investigate:
- Deliberate practice and developmental activities
- Decision making and its acquisition; visual search strategies and knowledge
- Practice and instructional strategies for optimal skill acquisition
- Expert performance in coaching
Paul has been awarded a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy for his teaching activity. He teaches within the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences on its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. He supervises postgraduate students and is a module leader on Science and Football B.Sc. programme.
Paul holds the High Performance Sport Accreditation (HPSA) from The British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES) in the area of skill acquisition. He has worked as a consultant in his specialist area for the English Institute of Sport and Real Madrid FC, among others. He is also part of the Football Exchange management team.
