Interviews/Auditions

Interviews/Auditions

All programmes that interview or hold auditions for short-listed applicants will have this specified on the course information page. However, a small number of applicants will be interviewed for other programmes where this is appropriate for other programmes; typically, this will include candidates applying as mature students, and those without conventional academic qualifications.

Below is general information regarding interviews and auditions held within the Faculty of Arts, Professional and Social Studies.

Programme specific information can be found on the links below.

Invitation to Interview or Audition

If you are selected for interview or audition we will notify you no later than two weeks prior to the date .Notification will be sent through UCAS for applications to full-time undergraduate programmes. Invitations for Postgraduate or part-time applications will be sent to you directly by the Admissions Team. For all applications, interview guidance notes will be posted to you along with your invitation to interview.

It is essential after you make an application through UCAS that you check UCAS Track regularly – please note that notification to interview or audition for programmes within the School of Art and Design and Liverpool Screen School may not go out until after the initial UCAS deadline of the 15 January.

It is essential that you accept or decline your interview or audition invitation via UCAS Track for all undergraduate full-time applications. Failure to do so may result in your slot being allocated to another applicant. If you are experiencing problems in accepting your interview/audition offer you should notify UCAS immediately.

Due to the large number of interviews we arrange you must contact us immediately if you are unable to make the date/time allocated.  If you do not contact us 7 days after receiving notification of your interview we may be unable to accommodate a change of date/time.  Applicants must contact the Admissions Team directly by email APSadmissions@ljmu.ac.uk  to request an alternative date.

Applicants for postgraduate or part-time programmes will be invited to attend interview by written notification sent by the Admissions Team.  Upon receipt of this notification applicants must email APSadmissions@ljmu.ac.uk to inform the Admissions Team that you either accept/decline the invitation or would like to request another interview date/time.

Applicants who live outside the UK

We welcome applications from those living overseas and appreciate that you may not be able to travel to the UK to attend an interview or audition. In such circumstances the Admissions Team will endeavour to make alternative arrangements, e.g. telephone or Skype interviews.

Overseas applicants whose first language is not English must be able to evidence proficiency in English.  Individual programmes may have different IELTS requirements so please refer to the entry requirements for individual programmes on the programme page. Although we may interview an applicant for suitability for the programme, interviews cannot confirm an applicant’s proficiency in English Language, therefore applicants must have certification of this in order to meet UKBA regulations.

The Interview

Admissions staff are available to offer advice about any enquiries you may have about your interview, your course or the admissions process.  We hope that the information provided on these webpages and sent to you in advance of the interview/audition answer these queries.  Please refer to the individual programmes for further information regarding what to expect and what to prepare in advance.

Successful Interview or audition

Applicants who are successful at interview or audition will be offered a place on the course they have been interviewed for.  If it is not possible to offer you a place on your chosen course then we may be able to consider you for a place on a course that is in a similar field to the one you applied for.

Unless you have already completed your qualifications or are a mature student who it is felt are qualified for the programme, successful candidates will be made a conditional offer.  The Admissions Team make conditional offers to ensure that you both achieve the programme entry requirement and are likely to succeed in your University study.

The majority of conditional offers for Undergraduate programmes are based on the UCAS points tariff system, and state the number of points that we require you to achieve before you can enrol on the programme.  Certain programmes may have additional requirements you are required to meet as outlined in the programme entry requirements, e.g. grade C in English, minimum of three A Level qualifications (or equivalent from other qualifications, etc).

Applicants who have applied to study on an undergraduate full-time programme and are successful at interview or audition will be notified through UCAS.

Applicants for postgraduate and part-time programmes will be informed of the decision by written confirmation from the Admissions Team.

*We endeavour to notify applicants of the outcome as soon as possible, however at key stages in the recruitment cycle due to dealing with high volumes of applications this may take longer than usual.  If you do not receive notification from the Admissions Team or UCAS two weeks after your interview date please contact the Admission Team at APSadmissions@ljmu.ac.uk

Unsuccessful Interview or audition

Applicants who are unsuccessful at interview at audition will be informed through UCAS, if they have applied for a full-time undergraduate programme.  These applicants can request further feedback if they email APSadmission@ljmu.ac.uk within 2 weeks of receiving notification of a rejection decision post interview.

Applicants who are classed as Home/EU and have applied for part-time or postgraduate programmes will be informed by written confirmation sent by the Admissions Team. International applicants will be notified of a rejection decision by the International Admissions Team.
