Staff opportunity to work in the LRCs

26 January 2011

Easter and Bank Holiday LRC Opening - additional hours. Ringfenced to LJMU staff.

The LRCs are going to be open to students throughout the Easter and Spring Bank holidays this year in order to ensure full support over the assessment period.  Because this is a new development we are seeking to recruit suitably skilled and experienced staff from departments elsewhere in the University to work alongside colleagues in L&SS to provide this valuable service to our students during this critical period of their studies.

We will be offering services from all three of our Learning Resource Centres, Aldham Robarts LRC and Avril Robarts LRC in the city centre and the I M Marsh LRC in Aigburth.

Staff will be carrying out assistant level duties which are Grade 4; the additional hours will, therefore, be paid at Grade 4.

We require staff for the following dates:

  • Good Friday 22nd April
  • Easter Saturday 23rd April
  • Easter Sunday 24th April
  • Easter Monday 25th April
  • Additional bank holiday for the royal wedding Friday 29th April
  • Bank holiday Monday 2nd May

Staff will be paid at the agreed rates of pay for bank holiday and overtime working. Overtime worked on the bank holiday will be paid as plain time (grade 4) in addition to the normal day’s pay, and equivalent time off in lieu. Rates for the Easter weekend are Saturday paid at ‘time and a half’ and Sunday paid at ‘double time’.

  • Training will be provided, but it is essential that the people concerned can offer skills in at least one of the following areas:
  • Reception and telephone duties
  • Library support
  • Student administration
  • IT support including Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with one of the following systems: Aleph, Blackboard, OSS, Oracle Financials, User Registration, VIPPS.

All staff new to the Service will be given an introduction to the LRCs and services on offer and there will be a half-day orientation and training session, which will take place week beginning 28th March, which you must attend.

Further details of the duties involved and an expression of interest form are available to download from the vacancies web page. Once we have a complete list of volunteers we will take a view on any potential impact to normal business operations.

The closing date for applications is Friday 4th February.
