LJMU academics appointed to REF assessment panel
25 February 2011
LJMU is delighted to announce that the four UK higher education funding bodies* have appointed three LJMU academic staff to join the Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment panels.
- Professor Jin Wang, Director of Liverpool Logistics, Offshore and Marine (LOOM) Research Institute for UoA 12 (Aeronautical, Mechanical, Chemical & Manufacturing Engineering)
- Professor Juan Cruz, Head of Department - Art and Architecture for UoA 34 (Art & Design: History, Practice & Theory)
- Professor Chris Frost, Head of Journalism and panel member in RAE2008 for UoA 36 (Communication, Cultural & Media Studies, Library & Information Management)
Their appointment to these panels fully recognises their research expertise and esteem and in doing so they join other UK experts from Universities, industry and the public sector (users of research) who will have responsibility for assessing research activities from across the sector.
The REF is the new system (replacing the RAE) for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions. Universities will submit evidence of research excellence from 2008 onwards for assessment in late 2013. The exercise will be completed in 2014 and will influence the allocation of HEFCE research funding (QR – quality research) from 2014 onwards.
*Higher Education Funding Council for England, Higher Education Funding Council for Wales, Scottish Funding Council, Department for Employment and Learning (Northern Ireland).
