Calling Alumni was great success

LJMU has just completed a month-long telephone campaign thanks to our Alumni, some of whom are also staff, who spent time talking to our student call centre team.

Twenty five current students, representing a broad base of disciplines, took part in LJMU’s second Campaign, making contact with alumni all over the country to hear about their experiences since leaving the University.

Alumni were also asked if they’d like to donate to three specific funds – the Opportunity Fund, the Hardship Fund and the Tom Reilly Memorial Fund. Some also opted to make an unrestricted gift which means that the University can put it towards areas of greatest need.

Together, our generous alumni raised an amazing £51,000.

Delyth Roberts from the Development and Alumni Relations Office, who managed the campaign commented:

"We had a truly fantastic response from our alumni. The student callers really enjoyed hearing about where their subject had taken them as well as sharing their experiences of LJMU then and now. The enthusiasm and generous support for the Annual Fund has been exceptional.

Whilst we are all committed to encouraging the support for our students, the Telephone Campaign is not just about raising money -it’s about ‘friend raising’ too. Our student callers were informing alumni about developments across the University, forthcoming events and reunions and reminding them that they are a lifetime member of the LJMU family with many reasons to stay in touch.

In addition to financially supporting the Annual Fund, alumni are really keen to engage with the University in lots of ways, particularly using their professional roles; providing ideas for student projects, offering work experience placements and careers advice. Alumni were particularly interested in finding out how they can get involved with the WoW programme, so that was a really positive outcome for LJMU".

John, one of the Student Callers, said:

"It’s been really interesting to hear about other people’s experiences here, particularly those that studied the same subject as me who are now fully qualified and in the position I want to be in – it’s been really inspirational. It’s definitely helped me to think positively about my future. The people I spoke to seemed to really enjoy the opportunity to re-establish contact with the University. It’s great when they are able to make a gift; it’s just such a fantastic feeling because I know it will make a real difference to a student here. I know I will definitely give when I get a call in the future".
