Research Fellowship for LJMU Criminology lecturer
12 May 2011
Professor Steve Tombs of the Criminology group in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences and co-director, Centre for the Study of Crime, Criminalisation & Social Exclusion has been awarded a research fellowship of £35,009 from the Leverhulme Trust.
This fellowship, spanning two years from September 2011 to August 2013, will support Professor Tombs’ research on "Regulating Business? The dynamics of local authority enforcement on Merseyside".
Through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, this project will critically examine Environmental Health and Trading Standards functions across the five local authorities in Merseyside. It does so over a crucial period, 2004-2013, during which both the ‘Better Regulation’ agenda, then severe fiscal constraints on local government functions emerged.
