LJMU graduate proud to present Yooka

23 May 2011

After graduating from LJMU’s School of Engineering, Technology and Maritime Operations last year, Andrew Jones was immediately employed by a web design company.

After a year in this role he decided to set up his own company, Yooka Web Design, offering similar services but based in the City Centre (Liverpool Science Park). Yooka is proving a big success and now Andrew employs 2 staff one of whom Anthony Condron, is also a LJMU student.

Both Andrew and Anthony believe that without studying modules on website design, finance, marketing and strategy none of this would have been possible – they now have the knowledge, ability and confidence to start up and manage a successful business.

Andrew commented:

"Yooka is Liverpool's newest web and graphic design agency. We are a small team of specialists who promise a welcoming experience, we love nothing more than getting our clients known and selling on the internet thanks to our branding and web design skills. Our handpicked team is great at creating bespoke, eye catching web design for companies in any industry. We provide our customers with a professional brand and presence on the internet all at a very cost effective price".

Andrew was enrolled on the Enterprise Development module during the second year of his degree. This module is delivered by the Faculty of Technology and Environment, in conjunction with the Student Enterprise team and Young Enterprise and it enables students to develop skills associated with developing a business idea into a feasible proposal. They are registered onto the Young Enterprise Graduate Programme for a year and over this time they are required to develop a business plan within a student ‘company’ with the assistance of a business mentor from the local business community.

This module also enabled Andrew to develop and practise some useful business related skills prior to setting up his own business.
