26 May 2011

The University was saddened to learn of the death of Professor Noel Sheehy.

Noel was a Professor of Psychology in the School of Natural Sciences and Psychology, and President Elect of the British Psychological Society. Professor Sheehy has written many renowned books and academic papers in his field. Originally from Ireland, he worked at Liverpool John Moores University for over five years.

School Director, Professor Andy Tattersall paid tribute: "We are deeply sorry to hear this news. Noel was a valued staff member, with a highly respected range of knowledge and skills in psychology and a talent for communication. He was an eminent professor who made a major contribution to the profession of psychology in the UK and Ireland. Although he was primarily an applied social psychologist, he was immensely knowledgeable and fascinated by a huge range of topics, including the history and philosophy of psychology, child development, public health, forensic psychology and abnormal psychology. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family."

A spokesperson for the British Psychological Society said: "Professor Sheehy was a highly respected member of the UK psychology community, and a very active member of our Society. Everyone involved in the Society will be saddened by his death, and our thoughts are with his close family and friends".
