Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA)
Developing Professional Practice Award
The SEDA Award is of particular relevance to support staff at LJMU who wish to acquire a nationally recognised qualification in Higher Education. The aim is to support staff in their professional practice and development which in turn will enhance the educational experience of students by focussing on quality and service delivery. In this cohort staff benefitting from the Award include Technicians, Skills Support, Learning Technology and Development and Quality Officers.

Institute for Leadership and Management (ILM)
Level 3 Award in First Line Management
Level 5 Certificate in Leadership

ILM is Europe’s leading awarding body for professional leadership and management qualifications. ILM qualifications bring about practical benefits as they focus on improvement of leaders and managers in their roles and improvement in the teams they lead. Participants develop practical management skills and an understanding of the individual’s own leadership capability. The courses also entitle staff to six months free access to ILM online resources. In this cohort staff benefitting from ILM qualifications include Lecturer/Senior Lecturers, Team Leaders, Admin, Research and Project Managers.

Some of the comments made by participants include:

“The sessions were really good for discussing issues and sharing ideas. I learnt a lot about the roles of others and the University as a whole.”

“The sessions made me re-evaluate some of my current practices and gave me a steer towards improving my position within the school.”

“I feel I am better able to support staff and students.”

“I have learnt the need for continual learning in the workplace.”
