HELOA at LJMU
19 October 2011
The Higher Education Liaison Officers Association (HELOA) held their annual Training Day at LJMU last week.
HELOA is the professional association of staff in Higher Education who work in the field of education liaison, providing information, advice and guidance to prospective Higher Education students, their families and advisors. The training day was attended by over thirty outreach professionals, from each north west university, with guest speakers from Student Finance England, St George's University of London and Kingston University.
Peter Dolan, Outreach Manager at LJMU and Vice Chair of HELOA North West, commented:
"HELOA is an association that enables outreach practitioners to share good practice and keep fully informed about current issues relevant to school and college liaison. The organisation's members are the key drivers in promoting Higher Education to young people, and with the changing landscape of the sector, the role of HELOA is critical to ensure that a sustained narrative, about the benefits of a university education, is communicated effectively to all appropriate parties. Our training day was an opportunity to learn more about issues such as Higher Education funding for 2012, how to develop an effective student ambassador scheme, child protection and the cross over between student recruitment and widening participation. The work of LJMU's Outreach Team involves engaging with thousands of prospective students each year both on campus and in schools, and this activity is underpinned by the values of HELOA."
