Graduate entrepreneur Gavin guides LJMU business students
08 June 2012
Gavin Sherratt of It’s About Websites, Your Business eZine and Mashbo recently visited Liverpool Business School (LBS) to meet students following the Graduate Enterprise module.
The module intends to provide students with real-life experience of developing a business idea in groups and producing a business plan.
Gavin gave a practical and entertaining account of what it is like to start a business, beginning with his own education and career path and his motivation for starting up after working for one of the city’s prominent web design companies, with a portfolio of major clients. He described the benefits and challenges of working for himself and gave an overview of the Liverpool business scene and how to get involved. Gavin studied Graphic Arts at LJMU and was joint winner of the 2010 Entrepreneurial Alumnus of the Year Award. Gavin said:
"It was a great honour to return to LJMU to talk to a group of current students about what I have achieved since graduation from working for one of the UK's leading web design studios, to setting up my own website design agency and other business ventures. It was great to share both the highs and lows of running a business and it gave me the chance to share some of the lessons that I've learnt during my transition from being an employee to a business owner."
