LJMU shortlisted for North West Insider award
12 October 2009
This week, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Michael Brown and ICDC Director, Lindsay Sharples were given a personal tour of MediaCityUK.
MediaCityUK is the ambitious development at Salford docks which, by 2011, will be the main base for media professionals in the UK and the core of the BBC move to the North.
The site visit was arranged by MediaCityUK’s Jason Legget, pictured with the VC and Lindsay, who is keen to engage with all of the significant media players in the North West.
LJMU’s status as a Skillset Academy – awarded to the Liverpool Screen School, working in conjunction with colleagues in the Faculty of Technology & Environment and Liverpool Community College, in 2007 in recognition of the their pioneering approach to professional media development – places the University at the heart of activities relating to the industry both regionally and nationally.
Lindsay Sharples explains: “Over the last five years LJMU has been very successful in developing the partnerships and networks that underpin the media landscape in the North of England. MediaCityUK will be a highly visible and tangible centre for the industry and will provide our staff, students and graduates with enormous opportunities in this dynamic and fast growing sector. LJMU has always been a creative catalyst with a great track record of developing talent and our visit to the development gave us an insight into how we can align our activities with what will be a great success story in a few years time.”
