Important security information: student finance payments

LJMU has been asked by the Student Loans Company (SLC) to warn students about possible phishing scams and to remind you not to reveal your personal details online. Phishing is particularly prevalent at this time of year when students are targeted to coincide with their student finance payment dates.

In addition to email, you may also be targeted by text (smishing) or telephone (vishing).

The number of students reporting these incidents to the Student Loans Company has increased significantly over the last few years.

The SLCs top two messages to students are:

  • We will never ask you to update your bank details by email, phone or text
  • We will never ask you to verify your student account details by email, phone or text

You should ignore messages that tell you to 'validate your account' or provide any personal, security or banking details. They will never ask for students to confirm information in this way.
