18 January 2012
JMU Journalism scored a huge scoop when the Manchester United and England star Wayne Rooney gave a world exclusive interview to its student website:

Rooney is one of the most talented and talked-about footballers on the planet, but the Liverpool-born former Everton striker rarely opens up to the media.
In the interview, given to Liverpool John Moores University student Erin McLoughlin, Rooney shows his private side, discussing fatherhood and his passion for the city of Liverpool.

Journalism students and graduates have also been successful when it comes to finding highly-prized jobs as football reporters recently.
Sophie Fairclough, who is due to graduate in July this year, is a regular presenter on Liverpool FC’s official television channel, LFC TV. Sophie has been joined on the staff by Stephen Dickinson, who took advantage of a work experience partnership with JMU Journalism to secure paid contract work at LFC TV.
