A New Era, A New Environment

Delegates from across the Education sector gathered at an event on Wednesday 29 February, to discuss the issue of 'How could and should our Education Sector in the Liverpool City Region prepare for a New Era and a New Environment?'

This Liverpool City Region of Learning event, sponsored by ARUP and held at The Women's International Centre for Economic Growth, explored different elements of the education sector across the Liverpool City Region. It considered how they could/should engage with the knowledge economy and growth sector developments in the Liverpool City Region to optimise on emerging new opportunities, enable positive progression for young people and learners and consider the practical actions to achieve this.

LJMU Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Nigel Weatherill, presented his views on the City Region's future and how LJMU can play its part in contributing to the economic and social growth of the area and work with partners.

Speaking at the event he said:

"As a university in the City we are set for the challenges of the 21st Century, using education through research, scholarship and improvement of skills to provide the right infrastructure to solve these challenges, whether this is the economy, the ecosystem, health or social cohesion. But it is also important to consider an entrepreneurial approach within all of this, focusing on developing ideas and innovation from across the sectors. Building on the upcoming Global Entrepreneurship Congress, being held in the City next month, we need to make entrepreneurship visible in Liverpool. It has to be a City-wide approach; for education, business and knowledge economy groups, which will bring the sectors together to face the challenges and create a lasting enterprise legacy
