Liverpool enriches lives and experiences of international students

Liverpool John Moores University and Study Group celebrated the continued development of the International Study Centre at a VIP event hosted at the ISC on 4 April 2012.

The event marked the official opening of the International Study Centre, which has been operating in its new location since autumn 2011, as well as providing LJMU’s Vice-Chancellor with an opportunity to see the facility and reaffirm the University’s commitment to engaging with international students from across the globe.

LJMU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel Weatherill, said:

"An important aspect of Higher Education is the ability to bring together students from different backgrounds and cultures. This can enrich the lives and experiences of both those travelling to study here and students who are from the City. I am therefore delighted to launch the LJMU International Study Centre at its new location and look forward to welcoming even more international students to the University."

Study Group has managed the international study centre since 2008 and, in that time, has prepared hundreds of students for their continued study at the University. This year will see the first graduates completing their studies at the University, having studied in the ISC before going onto three years of undergraduate study. Some of them are considering undertaking postgraduate qualifications at the University, which is testament to the sound foundation that the preparation programmes at the ISC provide.

Study Group’s Managing Director, James Pitman, said:

"Every year, Study Group welcomes students to the UK and Europe from right across the globe. Liverpool John Moores University has been a key partner and the move to this well-equipped ISC, where students have access to great facilities and expert staff, only adds to the success of the partnership and the success of our students.

"Last year 94% of students who completed their ISC programme were offered a place to study at LJMU and we hope to build on this, providing more students with a route to study at an ambitious university in the heart of one of the UK’s most exciting student cities."

The ISC currently provides two routes to undergraduate study for international students.

The International Foundation Year in Business, Law and Social Studies leads to a number of exciting undergraduate programmes, including BSc Maritime Business and Management, BSc Management, Transport and Logistics and LLB Law and Criminal Justice.

The International Foundation Year in Engineering, Computing and Life Sciences, leads to programmes as diverse as BSc Biomedical Science, BEng Mechanical and Marine Engineering and BSc Science and Football.
