The Academic Enhancement Unit is pleased to offer the following staff development programmes:

Time and Energy Management

Date: Thursday 7 June
Time: 9.30am - 4.30pm
Location: AEU, 5th Floor Kingsway House 

Course Objectives
At the end of the workshop delegates will be able to:

  • Use diary and priority management tools to manage their tasks more efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Manage and minimise interruptions and distractions to work
  • Leverage their time
  • Use their time more effectively to deliver better results for themselves and the organisation

Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector programmes:

Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS)

Duration: 5 day programme with assessment conducted over two days
Dates: 6, 7, 14, 25 June and 4 July 2012
Assessment date: 26 July 2012

5 day programme with assessment conducted over two days6, 7, 14, 25 June and 4 July 2012: 26 July 2012

The PTLLS Award is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills required to develop and deliver programmes, provide learning support and take responsibility in managing the learning process in adult education. The qualification is accredited by the CIEH and is the minimum standard qualification for all those already in or entering teaching in the lifelong learning sector.

Topics covered include:

  • Role and responsibilities of the trainer
  • Learning styles and preferences
  • Session planning and development skills
  • Delivery styles and communication guidelines
  • Assessment and evaluation (one practical and two written assignments)

Level 3 Award in Training Skills and Practice (TSP)

Duration: 3 day programme with assessment conducted over two days
Dates: 6, 7, 14 June 2012
Assessment date: 26 July 2012

3day programme with assessment conducted over two days 6, 7, 14 June 2012 26 July 2012

The TSP offers a shortened and condensed version of the full PTLLS programme and may be suitable for those who are looking for an understanding of basic training skills and practical application. The TSP is accredited by the CIEH and is the equivalent to the Professional Trainers Certificate that many staff will have previously completed.

The assessment consists of one practical micro-teach session.

Conversion from the Professional Trainers Certificate to the L3 PTLLS

Duration: 2 day programme
Dates: 25 June and 4 July 2012  

Staff who have previously studied towards and earned certification for the CIEH Professional Trainers Certificate are able to attend a short conversion course that will enable them to further develop their professional skills by upgrading to the full PTLLS qualification.

Assessment consists of two written assignments.  

There is a registration fee for each of the above qualifications. Alternately individuals can undertake a developmental route and attend free-of-charge and will be awarded a Certificate of Attendance upon completion of the programme.
