2012 Olympic Games: information for staff

11 June 2012

All staff should now be aware that the 2012 Olympic Games are being held in London (and various other venues in England) from 27 July to 12 August 2012, and that the Paralympics are also being held from 29 August to 9 September 2012.

This will be the first time in over 60 years that London has hosted this event. It is likely, therefore, that the staging of this event will be of interest to a significant number of University staff, some of whom may wish to take time off to watch/attend the Games.

In order to minimise the impact that the Games has on the day-to-day business of their department, staff if they have not already done so, are asked to notify their line manager as soon as possible if they require annual leave to watch or attend the games. This will be handled by their manager in the normal manner.

Staff who have applied to be a volunteer (Game Maker) should advise their manager accordingly to enable their manager to factor this into requests received for annual leave during this period (successful applicants should now have been informed).

Guidance for Managers on the 2012 Olympic Games can be found on the HR website: http://www.ljmu.ac.uk/personnel/87114.htm
