1. Microelectronics Group

   Researchers from the Microelectronics Research Group are investigating new technologies and materials. Members from the Group are also exploring ‘show-stoppers’ for optimizing digital/analogue circuits.

2. Electric Machines and Drives Group

   The Electric Machines and Drives Research Group conducts research into: variable-speed electric drive systems, electrical power generation plants for renewable energy sources and power electronic converters for interfacing the variable-speed drives and generators.

3. The Absolute Chemistry Research Group

   The Absolute Chemistry Research Group is dedicated to practices of Outreach, Public Engagement and Widening Participation.

4. Galaxy formation and evolution

   The Galaxy Formation and Evolution Research Group looks at population studies of dwarf galaxies up to the most massive clusters of galaxies, supermassive black holes and detailed modelling of the internal structure of galaxies. 5. Star formation and evolution and stellar populations

   By studying the gas and stars that shape the Milky Way as well as other galaxies in the local Universe, we can understand the life cycles of stars like our Sun, unravel the chemical enrichment history of the universe, and probe the existence of black holes across a wide mass spectrum.

6. Astronomical Technology

   The Astronomical Technology Group is interested in optical and near-IR observations and the technology that facilitates them. Activities of the group include the operation of the robotic Liverpool Telescope and the development of its 4 metre successor.

7. Justice in Education (JiE) cluster

   Based within the Centre for the Study of Crime, Criminalisation and Social Exclusion (CCSE), this research cluster seeks to engage in dialogue and discussion about the challenges and pre-conceptions that surround justice-experienced students.

10. Rat Island

    Face Lab produced a 3D facial depiction of a 19th Century adult male from skeletal remains recovered during rescue excavations on Rat Island, Gosport near Portsmouth.
