1. Woman’s skeleton shines light on early peopling of the New World

   A FEMALE skeleton found in Mexico has strengthened the theory that humans originally reached the American continent from different points of origin.

2. LJMU academic shaping solutions to tackle climate concerns across the construction industry

   Dr Ana Bras has been nominated as chair of an international committee looking to find solutions to climate challenges across the whole chain of construction.

3. Background should be no obstacle to careers in Law!

   The Law Factor initiative is aimed specifically at increasing the diversity of young people who study and ultimately practice law.

4. Art and Science Exchange

   On Tuesday 27th & Wednesday 28th August 2019, the MA Art in Science programme at Liverpool School of Art and Design hosted an Art & Science Exchange workshop with members of the Biochemical Society. The exchange was held at the John Lennon Art and Design Building, in the Public Exhibition Space and X-Gallery amongst the MA Art in Science student's end of programme postgraduate exhibition, which showcases the outcomes of their three month research projects. These projects served as a basis for investigation of specific art-science interactions, and were supported by open discussions, hands on activities and a Liverpool LASER talk.

5. Supporting those facing domestic abuse

   LJMU is backing a campaign to support people facing gender-based violence.

6. LJMU Religion & Belief Workshops “Understanding religious diversity of our students and staff community”

   LJMUs Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) Team, are proud to be working in partnership with Zia Chaudhry (Director of LJMU Foundation for Citizenship), Zane Abdo (LJMU Muslim Adviser/Chaplin), Rabbi Natan Fagleman (LJMU Jewish Chaplain), Hannah Padfield (LJMU Anglican Chaplain), Father Neil Ritchie (LJMU Catholic Chapain) and other external consultants in order to offer LJMU Staff (& Students*), the opportunity to participate in a bespoke, half day Religion & Belief workshop.

7. Diwali 2019 starts on Sunday 27th October and lasts for five days

   Diwali is the famous festival of lights, when families and friends get together to feast and celebrate. The five day festival begins on Sunday 27th October 2019; each day has its own individual meaning and associated celebration. The third day of Diwali is regarded as the most important day. Diwali literally means a ‘row of Lights’. It is a celebration of light! It is a time filled with light and love. The festival does not follow the Gregorian but rather the Hindu calendar known as ‘Tithi,’ which is a lunar calendar. We would like to wish all our students and staff community who celebrate this festival a very happy Diwali!

   LJMU once again proved its commitment to supporting young people from disadvantaged backgrounds thanks to the Law Factor.
