Come along to our make do and mend workshop where you can learn how to do basic repairs to your clothing.

The fashion industry has wide ranging impacts to both the planet and society with pollution, energy and water use, human rights issues, and gender inequality, all of which have been exacerbated by fast fashion and the high quantity of low-quality clothing that is consumed.

The best thing you can do is to keep the clothes you already have in use for longer rather than disposing of them. That’s why we’re bringing you a make do and mend workshop.

Bring an item in need of some love and we can teach you how to do the essential fixes. We’ll demonstrate how to do repairs such as:

  • Repairing or taking up hems
  • Sewing on buttons
  • Repairing holes in knitwear or other items
  • Fixing tears

If you have an item which you love but rarely wear as you feel it needs tweaking in some way, you’re also welcome to bring this along for some ideas and inspiration on how it could be changed!

Please note this is a staff only event. If you are a student interested in upcycling workshops, please contact the sustainability team at sustainability@ljmu.ac.uk.
