1. World Walking Day 2021

   Its #WorldWalkingDay this weekend (3 October) and in partnership with The Association For International Sport for All (TAFISA), LJMU are encouraging our community to get walking! 

2. Are we alone? Professor Monica Grady delivers latest Roscoe lecture

   Are we alone? Is there the possibility of life elsewhere beyond the earth? This was the subject of a fascinating lecture on the cosmos and the universe in the latest Roscoe lecture at St Georges Hall, delivered by Monica Grady, Professor of Planetary and Space Sciences at the Open University (OU)

3. Sport science students make an impact with nearly 15,000 hours of placements

   From community sports clubs that support people with special educational needs to premier league football clubs, 173 students have undertaken 14,730 hours of work-based placements this academic year.

4. Royal Society funds LJMU partnership with schoolgirl ‘researchers’

   Go-getting school girls hope to springboard into top science careers by undertaking their own research with Liverpool John Moores University.

5. Project Harpocrates scholarship for police staff seeking a career in covert investigations and intelligence

   The police staff, drawn from Nottinghamshire Police, West Midlands Police and British Transport Police, secured the scholarship opportunity under an initiative known as Project Harpocrates. The project seeks to support law enforcement efforts to recruit and retain staff in the highly specialist area of covert operations and specialist intelligence.  Whilst the project was open to all officers one of the specific aims of the project is to increase the representation of  Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff (BAME)  in this challenging and exciting area of investigation and intelligence management.

6. In memoriam: Peter Law

   The university is deeply saddened by the death of Peter Law, who passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday 8 February.

7. 'I'm so excited about our new Learning Commons' - Library chief

   The CHAT this month meets Heather Thrift, Director of Library Services, to talk about the digital future, pushing the boundaries of customer service and an exciting new library in the SLB.

8. LJMU experts to present at national Inspiring Engineering Excellence Conference

   Professor Monower Sadique and Dr Iacopo Carnacina will share insights into their research around the viability and development of sustainable, cement-free concrete.

9. Making Every Contact Count training day

   This mental health training will take place on Tuesday 10 October, 9.30am to 3pm, Exchange Station G20 and 21.

10. LJMU 2nd in Uni Compare Top 100 University Rankings

    LJMU has risen two places in the overall rankings and is placed in the top 10 for its accommodation, course quality, employability and student life.
