1. Thermal ‘fingerprinting’ to help conserve rare animals in Madagascar

   SCIENTIFIC methods developed at Liverpool John Moores University and Chester Zoo to count animals from the air are being adopted in the wilds of Madagascar.

3. Project Harpocrates scholarship for police staff seeking a career in covert investigations and intelligence

   The police staff, drawn from Nottinghamshire Police, West Midlands Police and British Transport Police, secured the scholarship opportunity under an initiative known as Project Harpocrates. The project seeks to support law enforcement efforts to recruit and retain staff in the highly specialist area of covert operations and specialist intelligence.  Whilst the project was open to all officers one of the specific aims of the project is to increase the representation of  Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff (BAME)  in this challenging and exciting area of investigation and intelligence management.

4. Student nurses train in the community in new Mersey Care partnership

   Ten trainee nurses will work alongside district and community nurses over the next year as part of a new internship scheme aimed at supporting direct career pathways into the community health sector.

5. How AR technology could transform flood risk understanding and build resilience in the face of climate change

   Communities affected by flooding, and agencies responsible for managing flood risk, have had a first look at new Augmented Reality (AR) technology which shows the extent of future flood risk in their neighbourhoods.

6. Alpine F1 performance coach and jet lag doctoral researcher visits LJMU ahead of new Formula 1 season

   Sport and Exercise Science Professional Doctorate student, Tom Clark, visited LJMU last week in preparation for the start of the new Formula 1 season and to discuss his jet lag research. Tom has spent the past four years working with the Alpine F1 team and specifically their driver Esteban Ocon.

7. Support for Young Adult Carers

   On national Young Carers Awareness Day, LJMU announced an official package of specialised support to ensure young carers are able to benefit from the advantages a university education can provide.

8. Enhancing the global student experience

   Two Architecture students and a recent graduate are enjoying a truly international experience thanks to LJMU’s Go Global Fund and the Erasmus+ programme.

9. LJMU receives £1.3million for new STFC data science training centre

   Liverpool John Moores University, in partnership with the University of Liverpool, are set to host a new £1.3million Centre for Doctoral Training providing comprehensive postgraduate training in data intensive science.
