2. Diwali 2019 starts on Sunday 27th October and lasts for five days

   Diwali is the famous festival of lights, when families and friends get together to feast and celebrate. The five day festival begins on Sunday 27th October 2019; each day has its own individual meaning and associated celebration. The third day of Diwali is regarded as the most important day. Diwali literally means a ‘row of Lights’. It is a celebration of light! It is a time filled with light and love. The festival does not follow the Gregorian but rather the Hindu calendar known as ‘Tithi,’ which is a lunar calendar. We would like to wish all our students and staff community who celebrate this festival a very happy Diwali!

3. LJMU’s Professor Greg Whyte - Behind the scenes at Children in Need

   LJMU's Sport and Exercise Sciences Professor Greg Whyte has helped raise over 50 million for charity including taking part in this year's Children in Need 2021.

4. Honorary Fellow: Darren Henley

   Darren Henley OBE received an Honorary Fellowship from LJMU on Friday 28 November in recognition of his outstanding contribution to arts and culture.

5. LJMU Student Named in Merseyside's 30 Under 30

   Rio Boothe is one of the Liverpool Echo's 30 Under 30. The article, penned by LJMU Student Journalist Mackenzie Argent, celebrates Rio and 29 other individuals under the age of 30 who are making significant impacts in Merseyside.

6. LJMU receives Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence and National Teaching Fellowship

   LJMU is one of 15 teams to win the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) and an LJMU academic has also been awarded one of 54 National Teaching Fellows (NTF). Dr Philip Denton, Principal Lecturer at the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences, is the recipient of the NTF and the paramedic team at LJMU’s Schools of Nursing and Allied Health received the CATE.
