1. A giant interstellar bubble being grown in the Andromeda Galaxy

   An international team of astrophysicists have uncovered an enormous bubble current being ‘blown’ by the regular eruptions from a binary star system within the Andromeda Galaxy.

2. Representing the UK at European University Film Awards

   As the only UK university LJMU was one of 13 European universities to participate in this year’s first European University Film Awards(EUFA).

3. Join the alumni mentoring program

   LJMU Connect has launched the LJMU Mentoring Group to enable students, staff and alumni to develop meaningful mentoring connections within our LJMU community.

4. First Step Spring Internships available for Level 4 students

   A new pilot internship programme for first year students (level 4 only) with little to no previous work experience launched on Monday 15 January and close at midnight on Sunday 4 February. There will be no interview process for these opportunities, the Student Futures team will undertake a matching process between participating organisations and students. The internships will begin on Monday 4 March (start dates may vary for each role).

   LJMU knowledge and expertise hit the headlines in January with stories and commentary in New Scientist, The Independent, BBC News 24, The Liverpool Echo, BBC 5 Live and more.

6. The anatomy of our ancestors

   Forensic techniques by international scientists, led by LJMU’s Dr Matteo Borrini, have created the facial reconstruction of the oldest preserved mummy in the Egyptian Museum of Florence.

7. LJMU awarded £44,000 to promote chemistry to school pupils in hard to reach areas

   LJMU has been awarded £44,000 to expand an innovative chemistry outreach scheme to encourage young people from 11 schools across deprived areas of Liverpool City Region, to become the scientists of the future.

8. New Reading List Management System Launched.

   In January 2015 Library Services piloted the use of a reading list management system, Rebus:List with 27 academics across the University with a soft launch that Summer.
