    The Green Spaces Research Group within the Institute for Health Research, is concerned with research that aims to improve access and benefits from being outdoors.

  2. Natural Curriculum – School of Education

    Working in partnership with Mersey Forest, LJMU have developed the Natural Curriculum, which is already gaining a strong local and regional reputation. We run a professional practice hub for local schools and have successfully delivered Department for Education/Natural England funded income-generating programmes for teachers.

  4. Research Groups - The Liverpool Institute for Research in Education

    Expertise within The Liverpool Institute for Research in Education spans the following topics: school leadership, children's development, technology in education, sports and outdoor education, teacher's professional development, STEM education, and the theory and politics of education.

  5. Dr Avril Rowley

    Avril is a graduate of the university, she spent 20 years teaching in primary schools on Merseyside before joining LJMU in 2014 where she is now a senior lecturer within our School of Education, working with both undergraduate and postgraduate students on our primary education programmes. She combines her passion for the outdoors with teaching, and has become our lead on outdoor learning, developing a new approach called the Natural Curriculum, and establishing two Forest School sites.

  6. Nature Related Pedagogies

    The Nature related Pedagogies research group promotes inter-organisational collaboration and knowledge creation with a focus on nature related pedagogies for wellbeing.

  7. Paul Nolan OBE

    Paul is an honorary fellow of LJMU, an award bestowed for his outstanding work protecting and enhancing the natural environment across the Liverpool City Region and beyond. He has worked closely with us to develop our Outdoor Learning Area and to realise our Natural Curriculum.
