2. The First British Astronaut - Helen Sharman CMG OBE Is Coming To LJMU!

   On 17th March 2021 Helen Sharman, the first British person in Space and first British Astronaut will give a talk at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). Helen will be speaking about her life and career as a scientist and as the first British astronaut.

3. International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) - 3rd December 2019

   1981 was designated by the United Nations as the International Year of Disabled People and since then, 3rd December has been marked as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The day aims to promote a better understanding of disability issues with a focus on the rights of disabled people and the gains derived from their integration into every aspect of the political, social, economic and cultural life of our communities.

4. Women In Leadership: What Does It Take For Women To Rise To The Top? (Event Invite - 26th Feb 2020)

   After 33 years of service, Julie Lloyd (Executive HR Director at LJMU) retires from the University. Julie is passionate about improving gender diversity and will offer tips on how to obtain a top leadership roles and how to promote gender diversity in senior positions.

   Football-mad students are on their way to dream roles after graduating from the elite FA University Womens Leadership Programme.

6. Student Spotlight: Abbie Romano

   The representations of women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) roles is improving, but there’s work to be done. As of 2018, WISE Campaign (Women into Science and Engineering) announced that the UK is on track to have one million women working in the field by 2020. These statistics are encouraging, and demonstrate an improvement in opportunities shown to young women who pursue the career path.

10. Cave bears may have been adapting to survive the ice age

    Recent research published in Quaternary Science Reviews on the long extinct cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) has found their attempt to adapt to the growing harshness of the last ice age before their extinction.
