1. Obesity rising faster in rural areas than cities

   Obesity is increasing more rapidly in the world’s rural areas than in cities, according to a new study of global trends in body-mass index (BMI).

   Visitors heard about the latest admissions policies revealed during an informative Q&A admissions panel, in addition to participating in a session delivered by several LJMU students from Northern Ireland who talked about life at LJMU.

3. City remembers disability rights hero and LJMU Honorary Fellow

   Sir Bert was a leading disability rights activist and was awarded his Honorary Fellowship at LJMU in 2002 for services to equality and promoting the rights of disabled people. He also served as a Governor of the university for nine years.

4. Sport and Exercise Science study highlights the health benefits of a Home-HIT routine

   A new study investigating a home-based, high-intensity interval training regimen was recently carried out by LJMU’s Research Institute for Sport and Exercise Sciences and has now been published in The Journal of Physiology.

5. PHI continues status as WHO Collaborating Centre for Violence Prevention

   World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed that LJMU’s Public Health Institute (PHI) will continue to be recognised as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Violence Prevention.

6. £575k boost for student mental health provision in Liverpool

   A partnership featuring Liverpool John Moores University has been awarded £575k worth of funding from the Office for Students for a project to further develop mental health provision for students across Liverpool.

7. Maritime SuperSkills Project

   Event to celebrate the successful completion of the project at the Maritime Museum, Royal Albert Dock on 13th June 2019. Attended by Iain McKinnon, Secretary Maritime Skills Alliance, local and national employers and LJMU staff who have helped with the project.

8. Alumnus wins coveted poetry prize

   We’re thrilled to learn that one of our Creative Writing graduates, Callan Waldron-Hall, was recently recognised for his outstanding writing at the Poetry Business New Poets Prize.

9. In Memoriam: Nickianne Moody

   It is with great sadness that the University announces the death of Nickianne Moody following a period of illness.

10. LJMU and partners secure the legacy of Iconic Littlewoods Pools building

    LJMU will capture the history of the iconic former Littlewoods Pools building on Edge Lane, Liverpool, and ensure its legacy is secured, with support from collaborative partners and funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
