1. Appointment of Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive

   Mark Power confirmed as Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Liverpool John Moores University.

2. Women in STEM lecture series: Chi Onwurah MP

   In 1984, there were 14 per cent of female graduates in engineering and technology courses. In 2015, there was still only 14 per cent of female graduates in engineering courses. This sad statistic formed the basis of an impactful lecture by Chi Onwurah MP about the gender imbalance in Science, Technology, Engineering and Technology (STEM) subjects and subsequent careers.

4. Visit to House of Lords to discuss how to support disabled graduates

   Keren Coney, Careers Adviser in Student Advancement: LJMU's Careers, Employability and Enterprise Service, was thrilled to go to the House of Lords to meet with Lord Shinkwin to discuss how to support disabled graduates as they seek to enter the workplace.

5. In memoriam: Peter Law

   The university is deeply saddened by the death of Peter Law, who passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday 8 February.

6. Themes emerge from inaugural Liverpool Health Commission investigation

   Liverpool Health Commission, supported by LJMU, is currently midway through its inaugural investigation and is able to report a number of emerging themes.

7. First Step Spring Internships available for Level 4 students

   A new pilot internship programme for first year students (level 4 only) with little to no previous work experience launched on Monday 15 January and close at midnight on Sunday 4 February. There will be no interview process for these opportunities, the Student Futures team will undertake a matching process between participating organisations and students. The internships will begin on Monday 4 March (start dates may vary for each role).

   Former UK Secretary of State, Justine Greening, led a series of discussions at LJMU this week aimed at creating better opportunities for young people.

9. School pupils inspired by female associate deans' leadership journeys

   This month, as part of our International Women’s Day celebrations, seven of our female associate deans shared their extraordinary career journeys with local school children, staff, and students.

10. LJMU's Face Lab reveals faces of the past and present

    Liverpool will be a centre of excellence for craniofacial analysis, facial depiction and forensic art, following the launch of LJMU’s Face Lab.
