A British potter who was responsible for reviving the art of ‘sgraffito’ in the UK in the 1950s. She studied at Liverpool College of Art in the 1940s where she discovered a passion for ceramics and later went on to teach at the college too.
Collaborative research focused on promoting wellbeing in individuals and communities.
The Stephen E. Coleman Best Paper Award is given biennially for the best paper submitted to the River Flow Conference Series first authored by a young researcher. This award was established by the IAHR Fluvial Hydraulics Committee in September 2014, in memory of Prof. Stephen E. Coleman (1966–2012).
Shirley is a graduate of the University of Durham and has an MBA from Lancaster University.
