3. Project Harpocrates scholarship for police staff seeking a career in covert investigations and intelligence

   The police staff, drawn from Nottinghamshire Police, West Midlands Police and British Transport Police, secured the scholarship opportunity under an initiative known as Project Harpocrates. The project seeks to support law enforcement efforts to recruit and retain staff in the highly specialist area of covert operations and specialist intelligence.  Whilst the project was open to all officers one of the specific aims of the project is to increase the representation of  Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff (BAME)  in this challenging and exciting area of investigation and intelligence management.

4. Worrying trend of children 'in care' still living at home

   Researchers at Liverpool John Moores University are set to investigate a worrying phenomenon in the North West of England that is seeing increasing numbers of vulnerable children placed into local authority care yet remain living at home. 

5. Paid internship opportunities for L5 and 6 students

   Student Futures, LJMUs Careers, Employability and Enterprise team, have a range of exciting, paid internship opportunities available for L5 and 6 (second and third year) students working on a real-life project for a local business/SME.

6. Human-altered ecosystems

   What can fossil bones tell us about the ecology and behaviour of extinct species? In two recent publications, Dr Carlo Meloro from the School of Natural Sciences and Psychology has worked with international teams to demonstrate how we can interpret palaeoecology (the ecology of fossil animals and plants) of extinct wild dogs by looking at their fore-limb and skull shape.

7. Hats off to the Faculty of Education Health and Community

   At the first of the day's Graduation Ceremonies, education students from LJMU's Faculty of Education, Health and Community collected their certificates at Liverpool Cathedral.

8. Record-breaking supernova discovered

   Astronomers scanning the sky to make new discoveries in the universe have witnessed a record-breaking cosmic explosion about 200 times more powerful than a typical supernova - and more than twice as luminous as the previous record-holding supernova.

9. Student footballing star dazzles with Euro success

   As the UEFA Euro tournament 2016 gets into full swing in France, LJMU is celebrating its own football success story thanks to a Level 4 Sport Development student and sport scholar.
