1. LJMU Assessment 4 – 14 January 2022

   As we approach our assessment period early next year, this note is to provide you with important preparation information and to confirm that exams will take place in person (with the exception of Levels 3 and 4).

2. LJMU supports Hong Kong Community with Progression to HE Opportunities

   LJMU’s Outreach Team has continued their work with the Hong Kong community based in Warrington. The team held an event last week to support the community and share access to Higher Educations options, within the region.

3. Academic Board election voting now open

   Staff have until 5pm on Thursday 14 September to vote for their preferred Academic Board candidates.

4. New sensor could dramatically improve fight against malaria

   Many thousands of malaria deaths could be averted thanks to new sensor technology being developed in the UK.

6. Majority of April and May exams to be held online

   Most exams in April and May 2022 will be held online. There are a small number of examinations which will be held in-person due to specific requirements of the professional body.

7. Discoveries of faint galaxies using supernovae

   Tom Sedgwick, PhD student at the Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI), part of LJMU,has with a team of ARI astronomers discovered 140 ‘new’galaxies, with findings due to be published in April’s edition of the prestigious journal Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.

8. Estranged Students Solidarity Week

   Monday 25th - Friday 29th November is Estranged Students Solidarity Week, a national campaign to raise awareness of the issues affecting students who are studying in higher education without the support of a family network.

9. International curriculum handbook to enhance teaching of technology education

   Dr Matt McLain, a Senior Lecturer in Education and Professional Learning in the School of Education has co-edited the Bloomsbury Handbook of Technology Education, a forward thinking new text that brings together international perspectives to enhance technology teaching.

10. Praise for LJMU’s support of care leavers from Minister for Higher and Further Education

    LJMU deserves the highest praise for their success according to the Minister for Higher and Further Education, after it was the first of only four institutions to be awarded the National Network for the Education of Care Leavers (NNECL) Quality Mark.
