1. LJMU Lecturer wins national Asian Women of Achievement Award

   Dr Pooja Saini, LJMU Lecturer in Psychology, won the Public Service Award at the Asian Women of Achievement Awards 2018.

2. LJMU art students invite the public to share their visions for the future at end of year degree show

   The Liverpool School of Art & Design will be opening its doors to the public to showcase this year’s talented undergraduates. The theme of this year’s show is ‘Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?’

3. Making Liverpool schools sun safe this summer

   Liverpool John Moores University is working with the Skcin cancer charity and the Clare Daly Foundation to roll out the Sun Safe Schools accreditation across primary schools in the Liverpool region, which will benefit up to 10,000 children.

4. Sport and Exercise Science education adds £3.9 billion income to the UK economy

   Results of a new report show that Sport and Exercise Science courses added £3.9 billion in income to the UK economy, with average salaries for SES graduates after six months of employment at £21,100 per annum. Over the course of their careers, SES graduates earn on average £667,000 more compared to their non-graduate peers.

5. New Liverpool Health Commission to focus on first 1,000 days of life

   Liverpool Health Commission, an independent panel established by Liverpool John Moores University, with research expertise and support provided by the university, has been set up to investigate and analyse health care policy issues.

6. New study suggests explanations for usage of plesiosaurs’ long necks

   Plesiosaurs are an extinct group of marine reptiles from the age of dinosaurs who are famous for their long necks. The effect of such long necks on how these animals swam is a mystery but now computer simulations are helping LJMU scientists understand what would happen if a plesiosaur turned its head while swimming.

7. Bid to stop stigma of menstruation in Nepal

   LJMU researchers have secured a £300,000 grant from the British Academy to tackle the stigma faced by Nepalese women during menstruation.

8. In Memoriam: Dr Larry DeNardis

   It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Honorary Fellow, Dr Larry DeNardis, the former US Congressman.

9. City remembers disability rights hero and LJMU Honorary Fellow

   Sir Bert was a leading disability rights activist and was awarded his Honorary Fellowship at LJMU in 2002 for services to equality and promoting the rights of disabled people. He also served as a Governor of the university for nine years.

10. The Notion of Becoming

    Liverpool John Moores University taught me that the PhD experience was about reflecting on the notion of becoming. To make sense continuously of what I should, could or need to pursue at any given point. The importance of being creative, accepting mistakes and remaining imaginative were reinforced through my experience at Liverpool John Moores University. A place that taught me to think about the purpose of my work and the reasons that underpinned my ideas. The PhD experience was four years but the positive affect of Liverpool John Moores University will continue.
