1. Project Harpocrates scholarship for police staff seeking a career in covert investigations and intelligence

   The police staff, drawn from Nottinghamshire Police, West Midlands Police and British Transport Police, secured the scholarship opportunity under an initiative known as Project Harpocrates. The project seeks to support law enforcement efforts to recruit and retain staff in the highly specialist area of covert operations and specialist intelligence.  Whilst the project was open to all officers one of the specific aims of the project is to increase the representation of  Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic staff (BAME)  in this challenging and exciting area of investigation and intelligence management.

2. Thermal ‘fingerprinting’ to help conserve rare animals in Madagascar

   SCIENTIFIC methods developed at Liverpool John Moores University and Chester Zoo to count animals from the air are being adopted in the wilds of Madagascar.

3. New HEFCE funding to upskill Liverpool City Region’s engineering industry

   LJMU has been awarded a share of £6.1 million by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) to develop new and enhanced higher education courses.

6. Wildlife conservation graduate inspires next generation of students

   LJMU graduate, Trang Nguyen, wildlife conservation scientist, environmental activist and founder of the NGO WildAct, in Vietnam, returned to Liverpool and LJMU campus this week to share her knowledge as a leader in the field of wildlife conservation.
