    The School of Humanities and Social Science's research sits within the following research groups: The Centre for the Study of Crime, Criminalisation and Social Exclusion, the Research Centre for Literature and Cultural History, History and the Centre for Port and Maritime History.

  2. Forensic anthropology

    The Forensic anthropology group is committed to the development of protocols and guidelines to increase the reliability of the recovery, documentation and analysis of human remains. We provide casework consultancy for forensic anthropological analysis, facial approximation and mass grave excavation.   3. Galaxy formation and evolution

    The Galaxy Formation and Evolution Research Group looks at population studies of dwarf galaxies up to the most massive clusters of galaxies, supermassive black holes and detailed modelling of the internal structure of galaxies.   4. Star formation and evolution and stellar populations

    By studying the gas and stars that shape the Milky Way as well as other galaxies in the local Universe, we can understand the life cycles of stars like our Sun, unravel the chemical enrichment history of the universe, and probe the existence of black holes across a wide mass spectrum.
