1. Health and Safety Training

   The Health and Safety Unit provide training courses for LJMU staff and students. Details are contained in the Training Planner. Bespoke training can also be arranged.

2. Steve New

   Steve New began working for Elder Dempsters in 1962 as an Indentured Deck Officer Apprentice. In his interview, Steve talks about those early days in the engine room, the dangers of cleaning wheelhouse windows and about why Steve joined the Merchant Navy.

6. Research Network on Emergency Resources Supply Chain (REMESH)

   The overall aim of this proposed exchange programme is to bring together an international team of researchers with a wide variety of expertise in supply chain risk management, hazard identification and safety assessment, and to tackle the challenges faced by industry requiring specialist knowledge and innovation.

7. Alfred William Thomas interview – Elder Dempster

   Alfred William Thomas was an engineering with Elder Dempster in the early part of the twentieth century, read the account of his experiences with the company.

8. Exercise and fitness - staff wellbeing hub

   Regular exercise will help keep you in shape, it also keeps you mentally and emotionally healthy. Keeping fit is proven to help reduce anxiety, stress and depression, and research suggests that exercise can improve the symptoms of mild depression and even prevent a relapse. 9. The Critical Research Seminar Series

   The Critical Research Seminars are a series of talks and debates that examine social policy. Seminar topics include: policing, youth justice, prison policy, drugs policy, death in custody and violence against women.
