   The Board of Governors has approved the appointment of Nisha Katona MBE as the sixth Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.

   There are similar concentrations of microplastic pollution on the seabed in Antarctica as in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean, scientists have found.

6. New book tracks nursing care in the Soviet Union

   LJMUs Dr Susan Grant has spent the last decade researching and tracing the history of nursing care in the Soviet Union, with her discoveries now documented in a new publication Soviet Nightingales: Care under Communism.

7. Schoolchildren train with sport scientists through LFC Foundation partnership

   The School of Sport and Exercise Sciences welcomed 10 young people from the LFC Foundation to its Performance Sport Unit during the Easter holidays to learn more about the science behind football.
