1. January Media Highlights

   LJMU knowledge and expertise hit the headlines in January with stories and commentary in New Scientist, The Independent, BBC News 24, The Liverpool Echo, BBC 5 Live and more.

2. Christmas closure and support services over the festive break

   The university will close at 5pm on Thursday 23 December and reopen at 9am on Tuesday 4 January. The Student Life Building will be open 24/7 throughout the festive break including on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day.

3. Professor's shock at destruction of Earth's habitats

   Leading primatologist Serge Wich has expressed his shock after contributing to research which suggests only 3% of the world's land remains ecologically intact with healthy populations of all its original animals.

4. Getting to grips with technology in media

   Pupils from Sacred Heart College, Crosby joined the Media Technology Group of the Dept. of Electronics & Electrical Engineering to learn technical processes for creating TV programmes.

5. Responding to our Community and Neighbourhoods

   LJMU is proud of its place in Liverpool and we are at the beating heart of almost everything that happens in the region.  However, with that presence comes a responsibility to be mindful and aware of our potential impact. In partnership with the other universities in the city, LJMU has embarked on a number of initiatives to work with local residents.

   Two third year paramedic students sprang to action last week to help a casualty who had fallen on Rodney Street, Liverpool.

9. Pandemics and public health: have we found our new normal? - Conan Leavey and Graeme Mitchell, Public Health Institute, LJMU

   It was only a relatively short time ago - in March this year - that the World Health Organisation declared Covid-19 a pandemic. We know now that it is likely to be many, many months before the UK pronounces its outbreak over; and certainly years before it is over globally.

10. Congratulations to our first Roma graduate!

    Alexandra, first of many as LJMU targets under-represented community
