4. Oar-some marathon rowing challenge

   Danny Cullinane, a Senior Lecturer in the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, is attempting to row further than he has ever rowed before, by completing a marathon distance (42,195 metres) in aid of the charity True Athlete Project.

5. £5M European funding to support development of Liverpool’s ‘Sensor City’

   The England European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020, has awarded £5 million to support the development of a hi-tech sensor hub in Liverpool city centre.

9. The evolution of large-bodied dinosaurs

   Scientists from LJMU, working with external researchers, have developed examine the evolutionary history of sauropod dinosaurs using computer models.

10. Gravitational wave science used to search for catastrophic explosion

    Researchers at the Astrophysics Research Institute were among the first to use new gravitational wave science, ahead of the recent announcement by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) that they had made the first direct detection of gravitational waves.
