   Liverpool John Moores University is spearheading innovation in the UK’s maritime industry with the launch of a unique maritime graduate talent programme alongside the official opening of one of the most advanced Maritime Bridge and Engine Simulator training facilities in Europe.

5. Disabled children to fulfil their potential through LJMU partnership

   A new interactive online training resource will help schools unlock opportunity and help disabled children reach their full potential. LJMU in collaboration with the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) have launched the project after statistics for attainment in primary and secondary schools show a significant gap between pupils with no identified special educational needs (SEN) and disabled pupils.

6. Working in partnership to deliver transgender workshop

   LJMU, in partnership with the Gender Identity Research and Education Society (GIRES), welcomed staff, students and community representatives to an engaging, interactive transgender workshop recently.

7. International curriculum handbook to enhance teaching of technology education

   Dr Matt McLain, a Senior Lecturer in Education and Professional Learning in the School of Education has co-edited the Bloomsbury Handbook of Technology Education, a forward thinking new text that brings together international perspectives to enhance technology teaching.

8. Sport science students make an impact with nearly 15,000 hours of placements

   From community sports clubs that support people with special educational needs to premier league football clubs, 173 students have undertaken 14,730 hours of work-based placements this academic year.

9. Sensor City moves into Liverpool Science Park ahead of launch

   Liverpool’s Sensor City project has moved into Liverpool Science Park (LSP) ahead of the opening of its official home at Copperas Hill in 2017. Established hi-tech sensor businesses, start-ups and graduate entrepreneurs from across the region will be able to get access to leading experts and world-class research from the field of sensor technologies and learn more about how they can benefit from Sensor City in the run up to the building’s opening in July 2017.

10. Primate population threat up by 20% in 20 years

    LJMU’s Professor Serge Wich, and other internationally recognised experts, have published a paper calling for urgent action to protect the world’s dwindling primate populations.
